Esquimalt, BC sits on the Southern shore of Vancouver Island, just 4km west of the City of Victoria. In the past, Esquimalt has most notably been home to the Canadian Forces Base (CFB) and Naval and Military Museum, but it is now emerging as a vibrant residential neighbourhood, with beautiful parks and beaches, scenic waterfronts, community events and attractions, and some delicious eateries.
One of our favourite parts about Esquimalt, BC is strolling through the oceanside parks, offering stunning views across the water of the Olympic Mountains, and breathtaking sunsets. Saxe Point Park is a community favourite for taking a sunset stroll, having a family gathering, or walking your dog. Macaulay Point Park is another park that is popular with dog walkers and explorers – be sure to take the time to poke around the old military masonry and hidden buildings throughout the park. Esquimalt, BC is a popular place for growing families, and we can see why. The sense of community is strong in this neighbourhood – with the Township Community Arts Council offering a wide array of cultural events such as concerts, plays, and art shows. If you have young kids, the Adventure Park in Esquimalt, BC is a terrific place to spend a hot day, running through the splash park and enjoying the picnic area. The Esquimalt Farmers Market takes place on Thursday evenings, bringing together local artisans, crafters, farmers, and more. Esquimalt Buccaneer Days, occuring in May each year, is a wonderful event for the whole family with an outdoor stage, pirate parade, pancake breakfast and a midway! Looking to play a game of golf? The Gorge Vale Golf Club is located in the North end of Esquimalt and is often referred to as one of Victoria’s best golf courses. Interested in doing some sightseeing in Esquimalt, BC? Take a stroll down to the WestBay Marina to see the floathome village or stop by the Point Ellice House – one of the oldest homes in Victoria!
A local Victoria favourite, the Red Barn Market, has recently opened in Esquimalt, BC, bringing local produce and an incredible sandwich bar to the community. The Country Grocer is another great option for picking up your dinner essentials. If you like to dine out, there are lots of options in Esquimalt, BC – and a few lesser known gems, too. Le Petit Dakar serves unbelievably delicious, homemade African cuisine, and La Belle Patate is often lauded as having the best poutine in town!
Located just a short distance from both Downtown Victoria and Langford, Esquimalt, BC is a great place to come and spend a day exploring, or to look for a home to call your own!
